How To Train A Dog To Fetch Your Slippers

This tutorial is part of The Ultimate List Of Dog Trick Ideas which contains 99 other tricks like this!

A classic trick with the twist of being taught by positive reinforcement. A dog that will fetch your slippers is useful and fun.

  1. Encourage your dog to pick one or both of your slippers and reinforce the action then reward him. You can do this by either playing with the slipper or targeting him to it.
  2. Introduce the command word and practice whilst gradually bringing the command word forwards.
  3. Now move your slippers away from you – two meters is enough and allow your dog to bring them to you then reinforce and reward.
  4. Practice by increasing distance and changing the location of your slippers.

Top tip; if you have a little dog you may need to teach him to bring one slipper at a time.

Dog trainers love this classic trick because it is useful and extremely cute.
